How to Understand and Use the Nutrition Facts Label

Primeplus provides freshly prepared, home-cooked senior-centric lunches, Monday through Friday in coordination with Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia (SSSEVA).  Members at Primeplus know that when they sign up for a meal, they do not have to feel guilty about what they are eating. We understand how difficult it may be to prepare a healthy meal without your own personal chef.  However, even at home, you can eat better and balance your energy by learning to choose lower calorie, lower fat alternatives to some of your favorite foods. The Nutrition Facts label found on food packages helps you to make smarter food choices.

Have you ever read the Nutrition Facts label on food packages and wondered: serving sizes, percentages, daily values – what do they all mean? Well, you’re not alone.   The Nutrition Facts Label is a handy tool for comparing and choosing foods that contribute to a healthy diet. The FDA finalized the new Nutrition Facts label for packaged foods to reflect new scientific information, including the link between diet and chronic diseases such as obesity and heart disease. The new label will make it easier for consumers to make better informed food choices.
