Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center Receives Grant from Food Lion FEEDS Charitable Foundation
$3,000 grant will be used to support hunger-relief programs in South Hampton Roads
Norfolk, Virginia – Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center, (Primeplus) was awarded $3,000, a grant from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, which is the philanthropic program of Food Lion, a grocer headquartered in Salisbury, N.C. The Charitable Foundation’s grants are designed to assist in hunger-relief programs such as Primeplus.
“The Primeplus congregate meal program is a vital component to help alleviate hunger in our community. In the Hampton Roads area, more than 15,000 seniors live below the poverty level. The Food Lion Foundation gift will help ensure that Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center will be able to provide additional hot, home-cooked meals to seniors struggling to feed themselves. We will be able to continue combating hunger, provide for seniors’ basic needs and raise healthy nutritional habits,” explained Chantel Randolph, Primeplus’ Interim Executive Director. “We are very fortunate to have the community support from Food Lion Feeds program; together we are able to make a difference in Norfolk and its surrounding areas.”
A private nonprofit agency, Primeplus has been changing lives of seniors in Hampton Roads for almost 50 years and continues to do it everyday by providing services to support independent aging. Primeplus is a leader in the Hampton Roads community for citizens ages 50+. Primeplus offers programs and supportive services to address senior needs to include but not limited to, physical and emotional health, social needs and offering education on issues/problems seniors face in their daily lives. This unique approach ensures seniors are able to age in place, in their own home and live as they choose for as long as possible. We are also proud to be a certified United Way agency and a partner agency with Senior Services of South Hampton Roads, FoodBank of SE VA and the City of Norfolk Health and Human Services. The Primeplus nutrition program provides for seniors unique dietary needs and is an important part of the Active Adult, Adult Day Services and Geriatric Case Management programs. Primeplus provides more than 1,300 hot, home-cooked meals to seniors each month. By participating in our meals program, seniors are able to sustain their income longer; affording them proper nutritional health which helps reduces financial insecurity.
