A wealth of research has demonstrated that participation in creative activities promotes health and well being by stimulating curiosity and self-evaluation, by encouraging individuals to express themselves in meaningful ways, and by affirming their dignity and self-worth.

Art therapy can also help people with their social skills. The benefits of art therapy in these types of situations can help with people that are withdrawn or shy, or who, for some reason or another, have a difficult time functioning within social situations.

At Primeplus Norfolk Senior Center’s Adult Day Services program, creative art activities are always on our daily schedule. For the Senior ArtFest our participants and staff drew and colored their hands to make complete our art piece titled, “The Hands of Time.”

Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time”.  ~Thomas Merton
